Protecting the environment is important to our family business. As a carbon-neutral company, we continuously strive to minimize and improve our packaging by using recyclable or sustainable materials whenever possible.
For our mail order service we need to ensure that our products are properly protected during the journey to their destination, while minimising unnecessary packing and using the most environmentally-friendly materials we can find.
Here are the materials that we currently use that strike the right balance, but please note that we keep this under constant revision; as technology advances, we consistently discover more sustainable methods to package our products:
Outer and inner boxes
Our boxes and inner fitments, such as dividers, are made from recycled wood and/or paper materials, and are 100% recyclable. As paper tends to weaken slightly upon recycling, we may reinforce some of our boxes and fitments with Kraft paper to increase their durability.
Brown paper tape
We secure our boxes with tape made from 100% paper and a natural rubber adhesive, allowing for the entire package to be recycled together.
Void filler
To stop treats bumping around in the box during transit, we use a crumpled paper called geami. It is 100% recyclable and made from recycled paper materials.
Hamper and gift box filler
To safely pack items in our hampers and gift boxes, preventing them from rattling around and sustaining damage during transit, we utilize shredded wood pulp. This material, crafted from recycled paper products, has FSC or PEFC certification and is 100% recyclable and compostable.
Bubble wrap and bubble bags
This method offers a lightweight, durable, and effective protection for delicate items. Although it is plastic, we ensure to source our bubble wrap and bags composed of at least 30% recycled material. It is fully recyclable.
Corrugated wraps
We use these to protect wine bottles – they are made using 100% recycled paper materials and are fully recyclable.
Sticky corrugated protectors
These are sheets of brown card that are smooth on one side with corrugated ridges on the other that are tacky to the touch. They are handy for products that need lighter protection. They can be fully recycled along with other paper and card.
Delivery
2,000 Bettys parcels a month are delivered by electric vehicles. As our courier partners are doing great work changing to a more sustainable fleet, we anticipate this number will continue to grow.
